Over 500 attended this wine and cheese event hosted by the staff of Body Perfect. We gave away over TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS in free treatments. Demonstrations, Goodie Bags, National Representatives and Live Music added to the festivities.

Joan Kaestner MD, Jean Carruthers MD and Sherry Simmons MD at the Allergan Speakers Meeting in Laguna Beach,CA. Dr. Carruthers is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. In 1987, while treating eye spasms Dr. Carruthers noticed diminished lines in the forehead while using BOTOX® and initiated the studies for it's cosmetic use.

Skin Inc. Magazine Awards Best of the Best in the Spa Industry To Body Perfect

Skin Inc. magazine recently announced the winners for its third annual Best of the Best Awards program, and Body Perfect LLC was named the winner in the category Best Medical Spa.

Winners will be recognized and awarded with their Best of the Best statuettes on Sunday, August 17 at the 2008 Face & Body Spa & Healthy Aging Conference and Expo Networking Cocktail Reception in San Francisco, an event that will allow winning spa owners and managers to mingle with industry elite and also celebrate Skin Inc. magazine’s 20-year anniversary. Finalists receive handsome award certificates, along with industry recognition for their accomplishments.

Response for this year's Best of the Best Awards was overwhelming. More than 20,000 votes were received, showing the passion and dedication each of the winners and finalists offer. Plus, a significant portion of those people also lent their voices to nominating entries for the Supplier award categories. The Best of the Best nominations began in May with Skin Inc. magazine readers submitting spas for five industry categories: Best Spa Marketing Campaign, Most Employee-friendly Spa, Best Medical Spa, Best Green Spa, and Best New Spa. Favorite product lines also were suggested for the five supplier categories: Best Body Line, Best Cosmetics Line, Best Industry Equipment, Best Facial Line and Best Spa Tools & Accessories Line.

While nominations were collected and counted as votes in the Supplier categories, the nominated spas in the Industry categories were each narrowed down to five by a neutral panel of industry experts. The top five spas in the industry categories were then posted online in June and voting commenced while nominations were still being collected for the Supplier categories.

Voting for both the Industry and Supplier sides closed on July 13, 2008, and, after much tabulating, those companies with the most votes were named the winners. By using this reader-driven voting system, the Best of the Best Awards is the most unbiased, prestigious honor given in the industry today.

Being a physician interested in non-invasive cosmetic procedures I felt this town of 120,000 deserved better. If you could see it on TV, it seemed unfair to not be able to access these treatments and I made it my job to bring the best of the best to Springfield, IL and I have achieved my goal!

4. Maintaining Medical Integrity

Maintaining medical integrity is a multi-faceted, on-going task. I am an on site board certified MD. I am a fellow with the American Board of LASERs in Medicine and Science and my LASER technicians are members. My entire office staff is LASER safety trained. I am a clinical professor at SIU School of Medicine and regularly teach students and residents at my medical spa. I also host many physicians at my spa for specialized classes. I have trained extensively with the pioneers of aesthetic medicine, including Jean and Alastair Carruthers, MD (initial BOTOX trials), Rox Anderson MD (Harvard-LASER guru), Kathy Fields and Katie Rodin(Developers of Pro-Active), the doctors of “Dr. 90210” and “Extreme Make-over” and many other professional and influential individuals. I take my staff to at least two national meetings per year for education and have weekly in house training/meetings. I rigidly follow HIPPA, OSHA, and all state and federal laws regarding my medical practice and am a member of the AMA, AAFP, as well as the state and county medical organizations. I am a Gold member with BOTOX, a member of the international hyperhydrosis society and am certified with Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, and Sculptra and am board certified in mesotherapy. I am on the women’s advisory board at St. John’s Hospital and an active board member of United Cerebral Palsy.

5. Maintaining Spa Integrity

Body Perfect seeks to bring the spa atmosphere into the medical realm by exhibiting peace and beauty. From the time you enter the door and view the beautiful large original artwork, the impressive 9 foot fountain statue created from the Body Perfect logo and the extensive greenery, to the foggers in the lavender scented treatment rooms, to slipping into the luxurious Turkish bath robes and lounging on the adjustable, succulent lambs leather treatment chairs, every inch of detail has been thought out for the client’s comfort. Drinks of choice are served with coasters and fine crystal. Disposable hand towels are individually monogrammed. Soft disposable spa wear are provided when needed. Imported Zen music is piped in each room and the volume is adjustable as are the lights. In addition, the staff and I attend Skin/Spa expos and conferences.

6. The Payoff

Body Perfect is seen as the expert in aesthetic medicine in Springfield, IL, with a weekly cable TV show and a weekly call-in radio show. We currently have 2500 clients and revenues have increased by 15% in the past year, even with the poor economic climate. Besides hosting the TV and radio shows, I give talks to local gyms, country clubs, and civic groups. We host a bi-annual event at the spa, April’s was a spring gala with champagne and caviar, and of course prizes, drawings, live jazz, discounts, live radio, and lots of excitement! We host weekly informal informational groups on Tuesday nights for groups of 5-15. We keep the branding consistent on all media advertising including TV, radio, billboards, newspaper, phone book, information boards, and magazines. One of our biggest payoffs is being able to donate to the many charity organizations and fund raisers which in turn gives us more exposure. Body Perfect has been nominated Small Business of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce, awards to be given July 1, 2008. And my best payoff is that after four years, I still LOVE my work.
